This is a calendar of artists who have kindly agreed to teach and inspire us for the Spring 2019 session.
There will be two types of sessions with visiting artists
DEMO ONLY OR A WORKSHOP WITH PAINT- ALONG BY MEMBERS

A small canvas 8 x 10 or 9 x 12, or a sheet of canvas to work on. My usual palette is hanza yellow medium, cad yellow deep, napthol red light, pyrole red, alizarine crimson, cobalt blue, ultramarine blue, viridian green, transparent red iron oxide, and white. A variety of flat long brushes, a stepped palette knife, a small spray bottle possibly some acrylic medium and glazing fluid. Members don’t need to buy the mediums as I have some and they can use mine if they don’t have any. |

Barbs painting progression
I finished up the painting from the demo...you will see that I took some ‘artistic liberties’ with it. I refined the shapes, added some color, and tried to catch the light. I used several layers of glaze for subtle color changes. If anyone asks, I like to use magenta, yellow, nickel ago gold (all Quinacridones), and dioxizine violet for glazing, as well as thin cobalt blue.

Materials List
1 or 2 gessoed canvas or panel up to 9x12" in size. I paint on both canvas and birch panels, so bring whatever you are used to using. They can be in different formats, square or rectangular.

A couple water based inks (white, sienna, black) and drawing pencils white gouache I would suggest 2 or 3 sheets of good quality paper 22X28 more or less smooth paper like Stonehenge or even cartridge paper would be fine. Not a watercolor paper as it has too much tooth. |
