Odette Says:
Each of these images is painted intuitively without a photo reference by responding to the canvas as I painted.
I like the forward objects to go over the distant objects.  As I go to the front lower part of the painting, the clarity and colour saturation of the objects intensifies keeping an eye on the focal point and making sure that the eye travels around the painting and back to  the entry.  I will demonstrate and talk about this.

This is my standard list for oil or acrylic paints.  Please bring whatever you have from the list.  In the case of Acrylic painters you may want a soft medium to build up texture by adding it to you paints as you paint.  The medium usually comes in a jar.”

Claire's Artist Statement:
Claire recently attained her Signature Status with the Federation of Canadian Artists. She has a Design Diploma from Langara College in Vancouver, and studied Fine Arts in Toulouse France. Her paintings in oils and acrylics are in private collections in Canada, the United States, France and England.
"My paintings are inspired by my emotional reaction to objects of beauty, either manmade or in nature. This inspiration is largely due to the quality of light and shadow in a scene, which creates drama and beauty. My passion is to create a perfect balance of realism and painterly interpretation in my works.”

Subject:
Plein Air painting in the studio
When painting outdoors with the changing light, we need to have a plan and use specific techniques, in order to complete a piece in a two hour time frame. This is excellent training for learning to paint the essential strokes to tell the story,  and to create painterly impressions of the scene before you. I will demonstrate this fun outdoor painting technique in a studio setting, as we learn to create the essence of the landscape.

Notes from the Artist: On our sheet of gessoed paper, which you have taped off into square/rectangular portions, we will begin by painting freely and loosely, and get 2-3 layers down. This is the most playful and loose stage where we’re not thinking about making a composition, we’re just experimenting to see what we like or don’t like. This is a call-and-response process where we will create more intuitively rather than from any preconceived thoughts. When we remove the tape it’s very exciting to see each one as a separate entity!
Then we will cut our little squares/rectangles apart and begin to work on them separately, in succession, starting to think more and make decisions about what each piece needs (composition).
Having a variety of supplies available at hand lends itself to create contrasts in texture, colour and shape. As you work on your “series” of paintings, you will see what each little piece needs as you progress.
The key take-aways I hope you’ll get from this experience are: *Experimenting with different materials  *Creating contrasts in your art *Painting what you love, intuitively *The benefits of Painting in multiples *How much fun you had!

Due to Covid regulations we will not be having the Pot Luck Lunch this year. .  Instead we will be having a DRAW for ART BOOKS (tickets $2.00 each or 3 for $5.00) with the money going towards the purchase of a sturdy easel for the Visiting Artists to use during demonstrations
12:30 p.m. -  members arrive, place their paintings and have a look at the donated ART BOOKS we have displayed for a Draw.  (We have decided we need to buy a less tippy, more substantial easel for the artists to use when demonstrating.)
1:00 p.m. - Start the critique.  Bryony being at the front of the room. A painting will be brought up one at a time.  We will be sitting in spaced out rows of chairs.
1:45 p.m. -  A break for Bryony and the start of the Draw.
2:15 p.m. - more Critiques
3:00 p.m. - more Draws  (if necessary)
3:30 p.m. - farewell
