Further to our instruction this week from Dixie MacUisdin, about doing watercolour on gessoed paper, we received this information from Bev Leniham which may interest our members. She says, "If you google gesso + watercolour, and you will find some interesting sites to follow up upon. when I did so I came up with John Lovett’s website, which is interesting. John Lovett is an Australian watercolour artist of note. http://johnlovettwatercolorworkshop.com/tag/watercolor-gesso/

I have just received an email from Jim which says:
I am announcing my show as artist in residence at The English Inn, from Nov. 5 to Dec 10 There is an opening night, one watercolor class and two breakfast demonstrations during this time. Over the years I have taught many students and have given many demonstrations to local art clubs. It would be great if you could forward this to your members who might be interested in seeing what the old boy, namely me, is up to these days in the art field and perhaps take in the class and demonstrations available. They are very inexpensive and will be in a grand setting at the historical English Inn in Esquimalt. See below for details. Thanking you in advance. Much appreciated Sincerely, Jim M. It is easy to become a sponsor, patron or volunteer (not so easy to be an exhibiting artist!) Please see the volunteer, patron or sponsor tab on this website for further information on how you can get an invitation for Opening Night.
On Thursday evening, October 15 the festivities begin. The first event is the Patron and Sponsor Reception: at 5:30 pm the doors open to the Bodine Gallery at Mary Winspear Centre for a champagne reception for our donors. Reception attendees are the first to view the Bodine Hall after its transformation into a beautiful gallery, and have the first opportunity to purchase the art included in the 2015 show. The Reception continues until 7:00 at which time the patrons and sponsors who wish, are invited into reserved seating in the Charlie White Theatre for the Awards Ceremony. The Awards Ceremony is from 7:00 to 8:00 pm. All artists with work in the Show, along with one guest, are invited into the Charlie White Theatre to join the patrons and sponsors for announcement of the prize winners. We also invite a guest speaker who is highly involved in the arts in the community: in the past attendees have enjoyed very enjoyable talks from such luminaries as Robert Amos, Pat Martin Bates, Robert Bateman and Robert Genn. Following the formal ceremonies, the doors to the Bodine Gallery are opened to the artists and all the volunteers who have been involved with the show with a wine and cheese reception for all to enjoy. |
