Leaves Artist's Medium Acrylic Artist's description of the session
Description: In this workshop, we will study "Leaves" using the reference photo provided. We will be using pencil to draw basic contours of the subject and will use this line work as a guide to start the painting. We will work in layers to achieve the right opacity and details in the artwork starting from a base layer. The layers will help add depth and volume to the subject. As we go through the layers, we will explore blending methods in acrylic and some other tips and techniques. This workshop is beginner friendly and will provide a good introduction to anyone interested in learning realism with acrylics. Are members required to bring a reference picture?

Abstract floral collage and watercolour. Artist's Medium
Watercolor & Paper Collage Laura's Description of the Session
Starting with magazine colours and images, a loose and free design is made in a sketchbook or piece of paper. It is then traced over to a piece of good watercolour paper. Each element is then painted with watercolour, following and adjusting the design made by the collage. This is a fun activity I use when travelling and in my sketchbook.

Acrylic Description of the Session
Elizabeth says she will do a demonstration and talk about colour harmony and how to avoid common pitfalls in art making. Are members required to bring a reference picture?
No see Elizabeth's notes about her providing “prepared boards” of these images: These are the two reference pictures (horse and dog with ball) are the ones we will be using.
|
Note from Elizabeth Because I would like to concentrate on colour harmony rather than sketching I am going to prepare some pre -sketched 6"x8" canvas boards for this demonstration. There will be a nominal cost to members of $7 each. (Note: Elizabeth will need a couple of weeks notice to prepare the correct numbers for us.) Reflections on Water Artist's Medium
Natalie will be working in traditional oils Description of Session
Reflections can be challenging because we want to paint what we think we see, rather than what we actually see in front of us. We will explore the idea that water takes on the colours all around it, and that in order to create realistic ripples and reflections, we just need to trust our eyes. Natalie has also put a link on the homepage of her website which will lead you to more reference photos.

Materials List from artist:
Brushes: basically a small, medium and large brush. Size 2, 6, 10 approximately. It may be nice to have a flat, a round, and a filbert shaped. Palette knife is optional. Pallet: for oils: a large airtight plastic container with a lid, (think of a flattish rubbermaid container) or a large piece of stiff cardboard with several layers of wax paper attached. for acrylics: an airtight plastic container as described above, or a stay wet palette. These are expensive and not necessary, but might be nice to have if you continue on your painting journey! Linseed oil, small jar with lid for oil storage (for oil painters) Small spray bottle(for acrylic painters) Rag for wiping your brush. Oily rags must be spread to dry after use. Loose & Unreal Birds Artist's Medium
Acrylic Description of the Session
This session will be focused on painting loosely; and not recreating a photo, an image, or even a real creature. This session is for those who want to paint a bird-like creature in a loose, colourful and abstracted style however the techniques are transferable to other subject matter. I will demonstrate how I create these birds, and ask you to create along with me.
Are members required to bring a reference picture?
This is the reference picture |
Materials list and comments from artist:
Other than your typical painting supplies, I would suggest up to two canvasses of your favorite size. One could be a painting you wish to paint over, and the other a blank canvas. Bring up to three brushes of varying size, a palette knife and any other straight edge you would like to try for scratching into a painted surface or applying paint to a canvas. I like to have a spray water bottle handy for creating a few drips’ and masking tape for edges. As the unreal birds are meant to feel loose and happy, please paint with your favorite colours; so bring what you would like to use.
